Smug Marrieds: Silence of the Lambs

We were flipping through channels the other night and came across this scene from Family Guy. What's wrong with us that we both almost rolled off the couch, laughing? The setup is simply that a little girl has fallen down a well and no one can reach her. Brian and Stewie happen by and peer into the well. LOVE Stewie!

Smug Marrieds: Overheard Conversation

Overheard conversation in the Harris car as we passed a sign in front of a church that read: HOT DOG DINNER THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT, 7:30 PM.

Dena: Hot dog dinner… yuck.

Blair (in his best southern drawl): And on the 7th day, God made hot dogs and he saw that it was good.

Dena: Eat a wiener for God?

Blair: People will be lined up for it.

Dena: Get your ballpark franks!

Blair: Please. There are no ballpark franks going on at a church hot dog dinner.

Dena: Get your red-dye #5 dogs!

Blair: Thass right. We don’t go in for no high-falutin’ stuff ‘round he-ah.

Dena: I’m going to hold the vegetarian equivalent. “Eat some edamame for God.”

Blair: Woman, you may as well just send people straight to the devil.

I don't know... do you think we're in danger of becoming too cerebral?

Cheers,

Dena

Smug Marrieds: Blair At The Beach

Sometimes--often--okay, pretty much every day, I'm estatic at our decision to remain childless. I'm pretty sure having small people around that depend on me for food, shelter and spiritual guidance would disrupt that whole, "Me, Universe, Center" thing I've got going on.

But I can't help but sometimes think what a great dad Blair would have been. Here are just a couple classic Blair-isms from our time at the beach:

  • We're walking on the beach, looking for shells, examining washed up horseshoe crabs, when we come to this big brown blob, about the size of football helmet. It looks like a cross between a circle of wood and a fossilized horseshoe crab shell. "What is that?" I ask Blair. "Whale poop," he says confidently.

Smug Marrieds: Fun Friday #2 - West Jefferson, NC

This week our Fun Friday adventure took us to the mountains. Specially, West Jefferson, North Carolina. Why West Jefferson? No real reason except Blair ran a half-marathon up there a month or so ago and said it was a cute town. So we packed Mom into the back seat and off we went.

West Jefferson is a cute town. We arrived about 20 minutes before the shops opened at 10 a.m., so we settled into a coffee shop/art gallery where we took turns guessing the price of artwork and being astounded when we were not hundreds but thousands of dollars off in our guesses.
