Blueberry Needs A Forever Home

Can you help Blueberry? She is an almost 3-year-old, 30 lb. hound mix that has been at the Rockingham County Humane Society Shelter for over two years. Two years. Think about that.

My animal protection group takes Blueberry to the monthly Petco adoption fair but so far, no luck. Blueberry used to be rather animated but now, more often then not, she sits calmly in her cage, observing the people come and go. It's almost like she's resigned herself to this life.

It breaks my heart.

There are many of us who love this sweet girl and we're willing to sponsor her and pay her adoption fee if we can find her a solid, loving home. We know she LOVES car rides (she jumps in the truck of her own accord to ride to Petco) and is affectionate. She's a little aggressive toward food, natural from being at a shelter for so long. She hasn't been around cats, so we don't know how she'd react. All in all, a sweet dog.

Blueberry is in Eden, NC but there are dog transports that run across the country and I know many members of our group would move mountains to see Blueberry have the chance to experience life in a real home. If you know of anyone, anywhere, who may be interested, please have them contact the Eden Humane Society

Thanks!

Checking In

How, HOW I ask you, can it possibly be the middle of August already?? We're going to blink and it will be Christmas. I remember when I was a kid, summer would stretch out endlessly. This aging thing is getting on my nerves.

Anywhoo, as I have nothing new or exciting to report (shocking, given the high stakes life of intrigue that I lead), I thought I'd use today's post as a status check on posts of the past. How's marathon training going? Did I ever lose those 7 pounds? What's that ganglion cyst up to these days? Let's check in and find out!

Marathon Training. In early July I posted this entry about being psyched to start my marathon training.

Smug Marrieds: The Glide Fight

The other day I noticed some scabs around Blair's waist, as if he'd been cut (or scratched by a cat). "What happened?" I asked.

"It's from running," he said. "Friction with my running shorts."

"You need some Glide," I said.

For those non-runners, Glide, or BodyGlide, is an anti-chafing balm. It comes in a deodarant-like tube and you apply it wherever there may be friction with your body and garments. Most people put it under their arms, around their waist, around the jog bra area for women, over the nipples for men (bleeding nipples are no laughing matter), on your feet... I even put it around my wrist so my watch doesn't chafe. It's a standard product, used by the majority of runners. That or vaseline, whatever works.

So back to Blair. "You need some Glide," I said.
